Town Clerk, Josephine Gonzales Town Attorney, Eliu Romero Absent from this meeting was Councilman Martin Vargas. ORDINANCES: Number 619 Proposed An ordinance providing for compensation of the Mayor and members of the council of the Town of Taos; providing add- itional duties for the members thereof; and setting the amount of compensation was read by attorney Eliu Romero. Copy of ordinance is attached. After brief discussion, Councilman Eloy Jeantete moved to adopt ordinance. Councilman Lawrence Santistevan, seconded the motion and it carried. I t ` Y ORDINANCE NO. 61 AN ORDINANCE PROVIDING FOR COMPENSATION OF THE MAYOR AND MEMBERS OF THE COUNCIL OF THE TOWN OF TAOS; PROVIDING ADDITIONAL DUTIES FOR THE MEMBERS THEREOF; AND SETTING THE AMOUNT OF COMPENSATION. Be it ordained by the Mayor and Council of the Town of Taos, New Mexico: Section I: That the Mayor of the Town of Taos shall desig- nate each of the members of the Council as liaison with the various Departments of the Town; one Council member shall be liaison to the Street Department, one to the Water Department, one to the Police Department, and one to the Taos Airport, and each member of the Council shall be responsible to and will devote at least ten (10) hours per month acquainting himself with the operations of the Department to which such member has been assigned and shall relate to the Council all matters relative to and regarding said Department; they shall also help to solve said problems if action is needed before they can be presented to the Council as a whole. The Mayor of the Town of Taos shall likewise devote an equal amount of time to supervising the liaison activities of the mem- bers of the Council and shall assist them in the performance of their liaison functions hereunder. Section II : That the Mayor of the Town of Taos shall be compensated at the rate of Two Hundred and Fifty Dollars ($250. 00) per month; that the Mayor pro-tem shall be compensated at the rate of Two Hundred Dollars ($200.00) per month; and that each of ;r the other members of the Council shall be compensated at the rate of One Hundred Fifty Dollars ($150.00) per month, all in accordance with the provisions of Section 14-9-3, N.M.S.A. 1953 Compilation. Gallegos Town Clerk, Kate Romero Town Attorney, Eliu E. Romero Mayor Garcia opened the meeting for business with the following matters to be discussed. INDIAN CAMP DAM: Mayor Garcia presented to the Council for discussion the matter of becoming a Conservatift District. Trustee Santistevan was against this matter because it would mean higher taxes. After a lengthy discussion, Trustee Vargas moved to approve this matter. Seconded by Trustee Pond. The vote resulted in 2 ayes, 1 no and 1 decline to vote. Motion carried. ORDINANCE INCREASING COMPENSATION FOR MAYOR AND COUNCIL: The Town Manager explained that the Mayor and Council could receivt: an increase on their wages beginning with the new fiscal year July 1, 1971 by means of an ordinance. The Mayor could receive compensation of $40.00 per meeting for a maximum of four (4) meetings per month. The Trustees could receive compensation of $20.00 per meeting for a. maximum of four (4) meetings per month. Motion by Trustee Vargas to approve this ordinance. Seconded by Trustee Pond. AN ORDINANCE PROVIDING FOR COMPENSATION OF COUNCIL ME EBERS WHEREAS, the Legislature of the State of New Mexico in its 1971 Session enacted Chapter 194 being House Bill 288 allowing elected governing officials in non-charter muni- cipalities to be paid compensation commensurate with a limited amount of compensation paid to county commissioners in the county in which the municipality is located and therefore repealing provisions of Section 14-9-4, NM SA, 1953 . WHEREAS, the City Council of the Town of Taos is desirous of providing a certain sum for its Mayor and Councilmen to be budgeted as a standard budgetary allowance of compensation . WHEREAS, the Mayor and Councilmen devote considerable time and duties to their positions . NOW THEREFORE, BE IT ORDAINED BY THE C'.OUNCIL OF THE TOWN OF TAOS, COUNTY OF TAOS , STATE OF NEW MEXECO, AS FOLLOWS : Beginning with the fiscal year 1 July 1971, the Mayor and Councilmen of the Town of Taos shall be paid the following compensation for duties rendered in their respective capacities , to-wit: a) The Mayor shall receive compensation in the sum of $40 per meeting, a maximum of four meetings per month. b) The Council members shall receive compensation in the sum of $20 per meeting, a maximum of four meetings per month.
