AN ORDINANCE PROVIDING FOR THr, _ ,jRCHASE
AND WEARING OF DOG LICENSES; PROVIDING FOR
/ THE SEIZURE OF DOGS RUNNING AT LARGE; SEIZURE
AND DESTRUCTION OF DOGS KNOWN TO BE VICIOUS;
AND REPEALING ORDINANCE No. 514.
BE IT ORDAINED BY THE MAYOR AND THE COUNCIL OF THE
TOWN OF TAOS , NEW MEXICO, That :
1 . All dog owners within the corporate limits of
the Town of Taos be required to purchase license tags (at a fee
specified by the Mayor and (-ouncil) , at the Taos Animal Shelter
for their dogs on or before the lst day of April of each year .
All dogs shall wear license tags. Guide dogs for the blind shall
be licensed free of charge .
2. The Animal Shelter shall accept any dog caught
without said license tag . If such dog remains unclaimed for more
than seven (7) days, such dog may be destroyed .
3. The Animal Shelter may seize stray dogs running
at large and not claimed or harbored by any person on his premises .
If a stray dog so seized is wearing a license tag , the owner of
said don shall be notified that the dog is in the possession of the
Animal Shelter . If such dog remains unclaimed for more than
seven (7) days, such dog may be placed with a new owner or destroyed .
4 . The Town Police, at the discretion of the Chief,
may seize and/or destroy any does known to be vicious and liable to
attack human beirzc,s, when such doc; is found l,Dose on a pu}-li.c

This Ordinance repeals Ordinance Uo. 514, passed on
March 5, 1958.
Passed by the Mayor and the Council of the Town of
