AN ORDINANCE PROHIBITING THE CUTTING INTO PUBLIC STREETS
FOR THE PURPOSE OF LAYING PIPES OR LINES, PROVIDING FOR
THE POSTING OF BOND BEFORE DOING SO, AND PROVIDING A
PENALTY.

`j Taos , that,
WHEREAS, the digging and tearing up of streets by persons,

`;i corporations , contractors , utility companies, and others for the
purpose of connecting onto or placing water lines, pipes, wires,
and for other purposes places a financial burden on the Town, and
WHEREAS, the cutting and tearing up of said streets consti-
tutes a public hazard and is detrimental to the welfare of the
citizens of the Town of Taos , and
WHEREAS, there is needed some provision for the financial
!j protection of the Town in the repairing of said streets, y
a IT IS THEREFORE ORDAINED by the Mayor and the Council of the
Town of Taos that hereafter no person, corporation, contractor,

y company,p y, or other entity shall cut into, dig or tear up ;
any paved street within the Town of Taos before first posting a

Five Hundred Dollar ($500.00) bond to insure the repair of same,
nor shall anyone enumerated tear up or dig into any other street
!; without first posting a Two Hundred Dollar (5200 .00) bond to in-
;; sure the proper repair of same. Said bond is to be placed with
ii
the Clerk of the Town of Taos who shall then issue a permit for
the cutting of the aforesaid street.
The cutting , tearing or digging into a public street without

first posting the proper bond shall be punishable as a misdemeanor :

and subjects the person doing so to civil liability to the Town ofd
Taos .
